A production system was developed at CTU to allow reliable routine production of Terbium-161 and its separation from target material, the Gadolinium-160, and other radionuclidic impurities like Ytterbium or Samarium. The separation system is based on column cation exchange chromatography, which is used for both separation and purification steps of the whole process.
The system was already tested with approx. 50 mg of irradiated Gd-160 resulting in over 5 GBq quantity of Tb-161 per batch.
